Alternator options for a Lexus IS 220d?

Hi guys,

I tried asking this question everywhere already from car audio forums in the Netherlands and in car audio forums in the USA. And apparently nobody has good advice or can help me...

Hopefully someone here can help me, or give me some honest advice.

I have a Lexus IS 220d from 2007. I already had one soundinstalltion installed, but about 3 months ago, I decided to get myself a new installation. I recently purchased the last few items (some things do cost money). So now I have everything complete and will install it in the next few weeks / months.

However I seriously doubt, my stock altnerator will be able to cope with the power needs from this new car audio installation.

Anyways the specifications are like this:

Car: Lexus IS 220d (2007)
Component speakers front: CDT ES-07 (mids) CDT ES-010 (tweeters)
Subwoofers: 3x Stereo Integrity Mag v4 subwoofers
Subwoofer amplifiers: 2x Sundown Audio SAZ-1500D (strapped)
Component amplifier: Sundown Audio SAX-100.4 (bridged)
Sound Processor: Rockford Fosgate 3Sixty.2
Capacitor: Rockford Fosgate RFC10HB 10 Farad Capacitor
Extra batteries: 2x Kinetik Audio HC1800 (and the original stock battery)

The Lexus IS 220d stock alternator does 130A.

As you probably can understand, it's a pretty demanding setup doing 2800W RMS at maximum.

I already tried getting an alternator for my Lexus which does more than 130A (e.g. 250A), though there are a lot of companies in the USA who can build these alternator, no one can build one for my Lexus IS 220d. Apparently the alternator in the Lexus IS 220 Diesel is different from anything they know overthere. In Holland, no one can help me either (or are willing to).

Also on Dutch car audio forums people say, I shouldn't be buying a high output alternator / 2nd alternator setup and I should be fine with my current alternator.

I really hope someone here (with some good experience please) can point me in the right direction or give me some good advice. E.g. I should be safe with my current stock alternator and the 2 Kinetik Audio HC1800 batteries, or someone who can point me to an alternator shop in the UK.

Thanks for reading and thanks for your time! Highly appreciated!

I would def. give it a try, since 130 is already a good number and you don't use full output while driving 30 for 10km with your heating/seat-heater/lights/reardefrost on full all the time !?

Just have another battery ready, in case your car doesn't start in the morning :whistling:

You also have 2 batt. for the stereo which should be a good buffer for the system.

See if you can find a garage in your area with a mechanic, that "knows" what he's doing and he should be able to find a "matching" part...

I've seen it so many times, when my father and i went to the dealership to get parts (mainly MB) and they go: "doesn' work, won't fit...".

Just to give you some ex.: from putting the engine of an 560SEL into a 190 (80's), to changing the brake-system (disc/caliper) of a C280 to the one of an S600, everthing worked out fine...

So don't accept a *no way*, just because people are "stupid", and never tried anything like that.. but since it's gonna cost some money, i would always check and try to find out if you're setup actually NEEDS a bigger alt.
if (ahnung = 0) { read FAQ; use SEARCH; use GOOGLE; } else { use brain; make post; }
