JBL BTX-250 BassTube 10"

I`m sorry about writing in english, which isn`t my own language, but believe me, you do understand my english better than mein deutch :)

I was just wondering if anyone has JBL BTX-250 BassTube 10" or even
has heard it somewhere.

I`m going to buy some subwoofer to my sedan-style car (audi80) and I`m not really sure if this active-subwoofer would be powerfull enough, if located in the trunk. (I prefer active-woofer, because of it`s easy installing and because it doesn`t demand that much space)

So, if you know something about this woofer, i would be happy to read your opion on this matter. Thanks!

Fabian

Hello...

Unfortunatly I don´t know this BassTube but my past experiences with active woofers aren´t the best. The amplifier integrated in them doesnt have enough power to get a decent sound. Either the bass isn´t very powerful and loud or it sounds terrible, because the amps don´t have enough power to keep the speaker right under control.

Why should it be easier to install such an active sub? You have to install a adequate power cable too and a cable from the headunit to the sub is also needed. So it´s not more effort to install a "real" amplifier, that kicks your bass the right way.

There are many good and small subs with acceptable prices, so get one of these, buy a decent amplifier for it and have real fun! It´s worth the effort!

Especially in a car like yours, a powerful subwoofer should be installed, cause the enclosed trunk weakens the bass in the passenger compartment.

I´m sure we´ll find a proper solution for your car.

Hi!

Yep, as Fabian already said I cannot recommend those active solutions for your car. I´ve been an owner of an active Pioneer-Sub for quite a long time which in the end couldn´t satisfy my demands anymore. The quality was quite right, but it surely did lack a lot of punch even in smaller hatchback cars (owned an seat arosa and now driving happily around in a suzuki swift).
And maybe you should get rid of your idea of buying a so called basstube. Those are really crap and you might want to look for an subwoofer-box or build your own enclosure for a driver of your choice.
Maybe you just tell us what kind of music you listen to, how much money you got for your project and we´ll try to figure out what we can do for you :)

Thanks for the answers guys :)

Just as I was quessing, the tubes just can`t bring it out. So maybe I will look for some cheap amplifier and maybe 10" or 12" boxed woofer.
But cause I`m from finland and the prices of caraudio equip. is much higher here, I will have to start to spare some money and maybe I will have enough later in the spring 2005... So thanks you all, and maybe we will get back to this matter when I can afford some real shit 8)

It shouldn´t be a problem for a good online dealer in germany to send you these things to finland. Maybe this solution is much cheaper than buying th items in your country. The EU makes it possible.

Hi there,

i remember somebody from a nothern country wrote here in the past. He just did it in german so Fabian is thinking you are the first ...

I got some questions for the car. When was it produced?

There have been several versions of the Audi 80 and so there is a imho more problematically in the years around 86-90. So if you own such a model it will be more difficult than in a newer one.

The shipping costs to Finland should not be so high. Look here to get some prices:

If you are buying enough ... ;)

There is just another version possible if you want to buy used items. Someone here in Germany gets them an sends one package to Finland. Maybe this is more interesting ...

I'm also not a native english speaking, so please don't look for mistakes :P

Thanks for the info again!

I still have to take a closer look to my financial matters, so I`ll get back to the business, when I have decided, what I`m looking after and how much money can I invest.

By the way, my car is audi80 -94, so it should be an easy case, or what?

It will be easier as in the previous model, but not as easy as in a hatchback.

So what do you want to buy? If you want to save money i think you should know what to buy ...

Greetings, Seb
